Your First Meeting
Welcome. Whether you're feeling hopeful, nervous, skeptical—or all three—you're in the right place. Here’s what to expect in a typical virtual SLAA meeting.
📚 1. Opening Literature Reading
We begin with a reading from SLAA-approved literature to set the tone. This helps us anchor in shared language and spiritual principles (not religious doctrine).
🎤 2. Featured Long Share (Optional)
Some meetings include a longer share from a group member who speaks for 10–15 minutes. They’ll reflect on their experience, strength, and hope in recovery.
📖 3. Core SLAA Readings
We read the SLAA characteristics, 12 Steps, and other foundational materials together. These help remind us what we’re recovering from—and what’s possible.
4. Participating and Sharing protocols
The floor opens for group sharing. Here's what to know:
Sharing is voluntary—you can listen and observe without speaking.
Raise your virtual hand if you’d like to share.
Each share is timed (3 minutes) to ensure everyone gets a turn.
No cross-talk: we don't comment on what others share.
No graphic details of acting out.
🧾 5. Meeting Guidelines
Before or after sharing, the host will go over key reminders:
This is a safe, non-sexual space.
No 13th stepping or flirting.
Anonymity is essential—no recording or screenshots.
Personal safety is your responsibility.
🔐 6. Access Info
